Inspired by rural if in Gazankulu, where she lived between 1984 and 1986, Aviva started painting figures in watercolours.

While living in Venda from 1987 to 1990, she was influenced by Venda artist, Kenneth Thabo and she  mastered traditional watercolour techniques, concentrating mostly on landscapes.

Her work formed part of exhibitions in Louis Trichardt and at the South African Embassy in Venda.  Aviva also participated in regional exhibitions held at the Pietersburg Art Museum and exhibited her work at group exhibitions and in Pretoria.

Living in Tzaneen since 1990, her work was influenced by the vibrant colours of the subtropical environment.  To accentuate the vibrancy, she needed to develop an unusual

Watercolour technique and steering away from the traditional, she combines paint with other media with great success.

Her annual exhibitions in Tzaneen, became one of the important cultural events in the Tzaneen district.  The first was held in 1994, and art lovers looked forward to each year’s new harvest.

Aviva taught private art lessons to children for ten years and was also involved in teaching at The King’s Court School in Duivelskloof.  Her students achieved distinctions in both art competitions and the Tzaneen Eisteddfod.

Inspired by the quality of light and the people of the South Cape, Aviva started working with acrylics.
