VERNON CHRISTOPHER SWART

Born 1959 Stellenbosch, Cape Province

A painter of portraits and figures. Works in oil, ink and pencil. From 1982 mainly working in airbrush. 1982 “Icon Analysis” series; 1983 “India Import” series.

Studies: 1977-83 University of Stellenbosch, under Professor Larry Scully and Louis Jansen van Vuuren, gaining a BA(FA) in 1981 and a BA(FA) (Hons) in 1982. Awarded the Maggie Laubser Bursary 1980-81 and the Ruth Prowse Bursary 1982-83.

Profile: From 1986 has taught painting and art history at the Tygerberg Art Centre, Cape Province. 1982 stage designs for the H B Thom Theatre, Stellenbosch. 1984 travelled extensively in SWA/Namibia.

Award: 1981 Cuesta Award, Stellenbosch.
